Construction Post 1: Our production kit

Our Production Kit:
For filming our project we were allocated kit by the school, but could also ask for extra kit if needed:
The Kit we took for filming.

  • Canon Legria HFG30 Camera:
    • The camera was very easy and simple to use. It allowed us to create high definition shots with the least amount of difficulty. The focusing and zooming worked well, which was good for our project as zooms and focus pulls are a staple of the mockumentary genre. The playback feature on the camera was also very useful as it allowed us to watch back shots we had just filmed and make adjustments if needed.

  • Canon DM-100 Directional Microphone:
    • This was a very useful bit of equipment, as it plugged easily into the top of the camera, and gave a good quality sound when played-back. However it would have been useful to have it separate from the camera so we could get a better continuity of sound between each shot by just leaving it in one place centred on the sound in that shot.

  • Libec TH-650 HD Tripod:
    • The tripod was useful as it provided a very steady camera for the interview shots. The spirit-level built into it also allowed us to get the camera exactly level, allowing a sense of professionalism and consistency through the shots.

  • Ari Lighting Rig:
    • This was great for the interview set ups, as it gave us a noticeable smoothness to the lighting of the shots and allowed consistency throughout all the different interviews. This was something we didn't use in the test shoot, and made a noticeable difference during our main-shoot.
